Careers and Supported Next Steps

Our Careers Leader helps young people understand local opportunities and consider their future education, employment and progression. The careers and work-experience programme has its strongest focus in Post-16 and continues to develop.

Learning about employers, workplaces and different pathways helps pupils connect their interests and skills with possible next steps. Experiences are shaped around individual needs and readiness.

Preparation for adulthood also includes community participation, relationships, health and everyday living. For some young people, the next step will involve adult provision or an ongoing support pathway. Our aim is a purposeful future that reflects each individual.

Planning a successful transition

Next-step planning brings together:

• The young person’s aspirations, preferences and achievements.

• Their communication, independence and support needs.

• Family knowledge and professional advice.

• Work with the receiving provider to support an effective handover.

We want each young person to move to a setting or pathway that is right for them and where they can continue to develop.
