❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to apply for college places?
The process depends on the pathway and provider. During the EHCP review process, parents and carers can express their preferred post-16 pathway or provision. The Local Authority will then work with the family and relevant providers to identify appropriate provision. Where a separate application is required, the school or provider will advise you.
How long can students stay at college or Post-16 provision?
Most college courses provisions support students for up to three years, with annual reviews to check progress and suitability. Baskerville's KS5 provision is three years going up to Year 14.
What if my child is not accepted by a college?
If a provider feels it cannot meet your child's needs, they will discuss this with the Local Authority. The school will continue to work with the student, family and relevant professionals to explore appropriate alternatives. These may include another education or training provider, supported internship, employment, volunteering, community provision or social care, depending on the student's individual needs and aspirations.
Will I be guaranteed a place at my preferred college or provision?
Preferences on the EHCP are considered, but the Local Authority makes the final decision based on what provision best meets your child’s needs and is fundable.
Will transport be provided after Year 11 or after age 19?
Transport is not automatically provided and is subject to the Local Authority's eligibility criteria and application process. All transport inquiries and applications must be done through the local authority on the Travel Assist service website.
Will college have the same hours as school?
Course hours vary by provider and course, typically ranging from three to five days a week. Times and days differ, so it’s best to check with the college.
What do I want to do if I want my child to stay at Baskerville’s Post-16 provision?
If you want your child to stay at Baskerville Post-16, state this preference at their EHCP review. Students can start or continue in Years 12 to 14. If you want your child to access our college provision at South and City Longbridge please reach out to Rachel Roe (r.roe@baskvill.bham.sch.uk) or Paul Carbery (p.carbery@baskvill.bham.sch.uk).
How does my child receive careers guidance?
Students receive careers education and guidance throughout their time at Baskerville. This is adapted to their individual needs and pathway. Students may receive support through lessons, pathway activities, provider encounters, transition planning and individual guidance from school staff and the qualified Careers Adviser where appropriate.
