Safeguarding at Baskerville School
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is the highest priority at Baskerville School. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive and secure environment where pupils feel valued, listened to and protected.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding
Our safeguarding practice is underpinned by current statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Prevent Duty and Birmingham Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures.
We review our safeguarding policies annually and update them immediately in response to changes in statutory guidance.
At Baskerville School we ensure that:
-
All staff receive regular safeguarding, Prevent and online safety training in line with statutory requirements.
-
Safeguarding concerns are recorded immediately using our secure electronic recording system and acted upon promptly.
-
Safer recruitment procedures are followed rigorously.
-
Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe, including online, through a carefully sequenced and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
-
We work closely with families and partner agencies to secure the right support at the right time.
-
Attendance is monitored closely, as we recognise that persistent absence can be an indicator of safeguarding vulnerability.
-
Mental health and wellbeing are recognised as integral to safeguarding, and reasonable adjustments may be made where appropriate in line with DfE guidance.
Safeguarding leadership is overseen directly by the Headteacher, alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring clear accountability at the highest level.
External Safeguarding Assurance
To ensure robust external scrutiny and continuous improvement, Baskerville School commissions an annual independent safeguarding audit conducted by an experienced external safeguarding professional.
This audit provides external challenge and validation of our safeguarding systems, culture and statutory compliance. Findings are formally reviewed by senior leaders and governors, and any recommendations are incorporated into a monitored safeguarding action plan.
Progress against safeguarding priorities is reported regularly to the Governing Body, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Safeguarding at Baskerville School is therefore subject to both internal scrutiny and independent external review.
