Attendance
Working together on attendance
Support begins with a conversation
Time in school supports learning, friendships, communication and daily routines. We set high expectations for attendance and punctuality, and recognise that some pupils and families need additional help to overcome barriers.
01 / KEEPING IN TOUCH
If your child is absent
Please report absence promptly through the school’s usual arrangements and explain the reason. Keep us updated if circumstances change, and make sure we have your current contact details.
If you are unsure about attendance arrangements, please contact the school office.
02 / UNDERSTANDING DIFFICULTIES
If getting to school is becoming difficult
Speak to us early about worries, health needs or other difficulties affecting attendance. We will work with you to understand the barriers and consider what support or adjustments may help.
You can begin by speaking with your child’s class team or contacting the office.
03 / CHECKING WELFARE
How we follow up absence
We follow up unexplained absence on the same day. Attendance concerns are considered alongside each pupil’s wellbeing and safeguarding needs.
Where we cannot establish contact or confirm a pupil’s welfare, further checks may include a safe-and-well visit and contact with relevant services.
04 / SUPPORT FIRST
Agreeing and reviewing support
Our approach brings together clear expectations, family partnership and regular review. We look at attendance patterns and whether the support in place is helping pupils access education.
Where needed, we work with services such as Early Help, health professionals and the local authority to address barriers together.
Temporary reduced timetables
A temporary reduced timetable is considered only in exceptional circumstances and in the pupil’s best interests. It requires formal agreement between school and parents or carers, safeguarding checks, regular reviews, a proposed end date and a plan towards full-time education. It must not be used to manage behaviour.
