At Baskerville School, we recognise that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) play a vital role in preparing students for a safe, healthy and fulfilling adult life. Through the Life Lessons curriculum, students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to understand themselves, build and maintain positive relationships, manage their physical and emotional wellbeing, make informed decisions and actively participate in their communities.

Our curriculum is designed to equip students with the essential life skills required for increased independence, self-advocacy and successful preparation for adulthood. Learning supports students to develop an understanding of personal safety, healthy lifestyles, emotional regulation, online safety, financial awareness, citizenship and respectful relationships, enabling them to navigate an increasingly complex world with confidence.

For students with autism and complex needs, learning is carefully personalised and delivered through a range of adapted approaches, including visual supports, structured routines, explicit teaching, repetition, sensory experiences and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Key concepts are revisited and reinforced over time to deepen understanding, promote retention and ensure that learning can be applied in real-life contexts.

The curriculum fosters respect, inclusion and tolerance, helping students to understand and celebrate diversity while developing the skills needed to form positive relationships and contribute meaningfully to society. By providing a safe and supportive environment in which sensitive topics can be explored, we empower students to become confident, resilient and informed individuals who are prepared for their next stage of education, employment and adult life.
