As students move closer to adulthood, they are given opportunities to explore further education, training and employment pathways. Through college visits, careers workshops and employer-led activities, students can make informed decisions about their future and build confidence for life beyond Baskerville.


College Visits and Post-16 Exploration

Post-16 Preparation | Exploration

🎓 Queen Alexandra College (QAC)

Students explored specialist post-16 and post-19 opportunities for young people with disabilities and additional needs.

Students experienced:

  • Campus tours
  • Vocational learning activities
  • Independent living opportunities
  • Supported internship pathways

The visit helped students understand how QAC supports preparation for adulthood, employment and independence.

🎨 PINC College

Students visited a specialist creative arts college supporting autistic young people and learners with additional needs.

Students explored:

  • Digital Art
  • Animation
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography and Media

The visit demonstrated how creative talents can lead to further education, supported internships and employment opportunities.

🏫 HBVC Taster Days

Students attended taster sessions at Heart of Birmingham Vocational College, experiencing life in a specialist post-16 setting.

Students gained:

  • Hands-on vocational experiences
  • Confidence in new environments
  • Knowledge of post-16 options
  • Preparation for transition

The taster days helped students understand what further education could look like after school.

Brainbow Workshops

Employer Encounters | Exploration → Application

Students took part in Brainbow workshops designed to help them apply employability skills in practical and realistic situations. These sessions encouraged students to communicate effectively, present themselves professionally and develop confidence when interacting with employers.

🎤 Mock Interviews

Merlin Class took part in mock interviews, practising how to answer questions, present themselves professionally and communicate confidently with employers.

💡 Enterprise Workshops

Bats Class developed enterprise skills by creating and delivering sales pitches for products and business ideas.

🧽 Mrs Meticulous

Merlin Class were visited by Mrs Meticulous, who spoke about running her own cleaning business.

Students then worked alongside her, helping to clean the school minibuses and gaining an insight into self-employment and customer-focused work.
